Upload an image to create a custom avatar in Google Vids
Users can now upload images to create custom avatars directly within Google Vids. This enables greater options for customization and more precise creative control by uploading your own image, in addition to the ability to build a custom avatar from scratch.
Upload Avatar user experience
- Upload an image: Choose an image from your local computer, Drive, or Photos to create an avatar from.
- Refine images in Vids: Refine the image within Vids to cleanup backgrounds, lighting, or add festive decorations.
- Save for reuse in a project: Custom avatars are saved to the Vids project, so they can be reused consistently within a video.
Getting started
- Admins: This feature does not have an admin control.
- End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about using your avatar in Vids.
Rollout pace
- Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) started on October 30, 2026
- Scheduled Release domains: Full rollout (1–3 days for feature visibility) starting on November 20, 2026
