This official feed from the Google Workspace team provides essential information about new features and improvements for Google Workspace customers.

We are integrating Gems into Google Workspace Studio as a step that you can add to your flows.

The Ask a Gem step allows you to have your flows send a prompt to private Gems to automate tasks like creating summaries or writing documents. You can use any Gem with Drive files in its knowledge base (Gems with Google Photos or other file types will not appear in Studio).

Use the Ask a Gem step to send prompts to Gems

Your inbox is full of critical information that you need to get your work done, but uncovering it shouldn't mean running endless searches just to sift through fragmented email threads. With AI Overviews in Gmail search, you can now ask natural language questions in Gmail’s search bar and get concise summaries and answers without digging through emails.

In the Gmail search bar, type in questions such as:

  • “What are the performance improvements Owen mentioned?”
  • “What are the milestones we agreed to for “Project Astro”?
  • “Which invoices have I already paid and which are still outstanding to Sandbox Supplies?”
  • “What were the latest comments from the UX deck?”
  • “What are the details of my upcoming trip to New York?”
You’ll get instant summaries that pull context from across multiple conversations. No more searching your inbox for scattered details—just the answers you need, right when you need them.

Note that we previously launched this feature to users with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions; we’re now bringing it to business and education users with eligible licenses (see availability below).

In March, we announced a beta for AI Overviews in Drive. This feature is now generally available and has started rolling out to eligible Google Workspace and Google AI plans.

Instead of searching through endless files and opening dozens of tabs to find the information you need, you can now get instant answers right at the top of your search results. Gemini does the heavy lifting for you, scanning your documents to provide clear, reliable summaries.

Here is how it helps you work smarter:

  • See the big picture: Get a quick summary of information pulled from multiple files without needing to open each one.
  • Ask naturally: There’s no need to use complicated search tricks. Just ask a question as you would to a colleague, like "What’s in our Spring 2026 catalog?"
  • Get the right answer: Gemini automatically understands what you’re looking for, whether it’s a quick fact, a project summary, or a list of specific documents, and adjusts its response to match.
  • Dig deeper with ease: If you need more information, you can go from a quick summary to a deeper conversation with Gemini in just one click.

In March, we announced a beta for Ask Gemini in Drive. This feature is now generally available and has started rolling out to eligible Google Workspace and Google AI plans.

Google Drive isn’t just a place to store your work, it’s now the place to understand it. We’ve reimagined the experience with Gemini now offering a dedicated, immersive workspace designed for deep focus. You can now engage in high-context, multi-turn conversations to efficiently explore and understand content across Drive, Workspace apps, and the web.

Whether you are synthesizing years of client proposals or uncovering hidden customer trends, Ask Gemini in Drive provides a holistic view of your entire body of work.

Key features include:

  • Dedicated conversations: Engage in focused discussions about specific sets of files and folders. By grounding your questions in the relevant content, you get more precise, actionable answers.
  • Drive projects: Organize your work more effectively with Drive projects. This new feature in Drive allows you to curate related files and folders into a central, always up-to-date, and shared knowledge base, making it easier to manage complex workflows and keep your team aligned.
  • Persistent conversation history: Easily pick up where you left off. Your past chats are saved, allowing you to quickly revisit previous insights about specific folders or projects without starting over.
  • Secure and compliant: Ask Gemini in Drive and projects are built directly into the Drive architecture, it never copies or replicates your files. It honors your existing data protection and security controls, including access permissions, DLP policies, and IRM, ensuring Gemini only accesses content you are authorized to see.

Find and understand information across your Drive files, Workspace apps, and the entire internet

With this launch, we’re also expanding language support. Ask Gemini in Drive will roll out to all 29 languages currently supported in the Gemini side panel over the coming weeks (see the Rollout pace section below for more details).

We're introducing Fill with Gemini in Google Sheets, a new AI-powered feature designed to make data preparation and manual entry even easier. Fill with Gemini infers your intent, allowing you to populate data 9x faster than manual entry for 100-cell tasks.*

Whether you need to extract information from the web or categorize existing data, Fill with Gemini handles the heavy lifting, eliminating the need for complex formulas. For example, a marketing team can use it to automatically generate suggested responses based on customer feedback messages, or a small business owner could use it to quickly fill out product details just by describing what they need.

Fill with Gemini offers two ways to enrich your data, saving you time and effort:

  • Drag-and-drop: If your column has at least one completed cell, you can use a new drag entry point to fill the column based on the context of the table.
  • Prompt-based filling: For empty multi-cell selections, you can use a one-click entry point to "Fill" the range. You can either automatically fill cells when a column has at least one completed cell or write a custom prompt to fit your specific needs.

*Data based on a 95-participant study comparing manual entry against Fill with Gemini on a 100-cell task.

We're excited to introduce a new AI-powered feature in Google Sheets that allows you to transform unstructured text into organized tables.

Manually formatting and organizing unformatted data in spreadsheets can be a tedious, time-consuming task. Now, when you paste content like bulleted lists, freeform text, or JSON we surface a “Convert to table” button which leverages Gemini to turn your pasted content into a table with just a single click. This helps to streamline data entry so you can move to analysis faster.

We’re excited to introduce new Gemini in Sheets capabilities that enable you to build and edit entire spreadsheets using simple natural language.

Whether you need a quick view of your small business's financial health or a complex project tracker, Gemini in Sheets orchestrates the multi-step construction from start to finish. Workspace Intelligence synthesizes data across your files, emails, chats, and the web to help you visualize your data with stylized tables, formulas, pivot tables, and charts.

Gemini in Sheets can handle complex, multi-step tasks that previously required expert-level knowledge of Sheets. For example, you can ask Gemini to do end-to-end creation to "build a P&L dashboard leveraging my historic service incidents and rate cards," or do side-by-side editing to “add scorecards and bar charts above my sales and inventory data”. Gemini will synthesize relevant information, construct a plan for your approval, and then build out the entire formatted spreadsheet.

Key capabilities include:

  • End-to-end creation: Build entire spreadsheets from a single prompt, including data retrieval and formatting.
  • Side-by-side editing: Refine and update existing models, budgets, or analysis directly in the side panel.
  • Workspace Intelligence: Automatically pull context and data from other Workspace apps to ensure your spreadsheet is accurate and relevant.
  • Advanced task fulfillment: Leverages Sheets’ most powerful tools, like pivot tables and complex formulas, without requiring manual configuration.
  • Advanced optimization: Handle complex optimization problems that typically require complex manual formulas or third-party tools. Powered by research from Google DeepMind and Google Research OR-Tools.
  • State-of-the-art performance: Gemini in Sheets achieved a 70.48% success rate in autonomously manipulating complex, real-world spreadsheets on the full SpreadsheetBench dataset, nearing human expert ability.

We’re reimagining the AI writing experience in Google Docs to help you move from a blank page to a finished document faster than ever. Google Docs is evolving from a traditional word processor into a collaborator that understands your organization’s context.

Reimagined Gemini experience in Docs

Google Docs now offers a centralized place to generate, write, and refine your documents with Gemini. Powered by Workspace Intelligence, Gemini leverages data across Drive, Gmail, Chat, and the web to provide personalized, context-aware assistance.

  • The upgraded Help me create experience enables you to generate relevant, fully formatted first drafts that synthesize information from your files, emails, chat, and the web.
  • With Help me write, simply prompt Gemini from the new bottom bar or side panel to make edits across your doc, or select text to focus Gemini’s attention. Gemini’s suggested edits are only visible to you until you approve them.
  • Match writing style helps maintain a consistent tone and style across your entire doc, no matter how many people are working on it.
To generate new docs from scratch, open a new doc, enter your prompt, and click submit. To edit existing docs, simply hover over the spark near the bottom of your doc and type a prompt in the bottom bar.

Generate on-brand documents using your existing docs and templates

Looking to quickly populate a template or replicate the refined style of your favorite docs? With Match doc format, Gemini can now mirror a source document to generate content that adheres to the original's formatting (e.g., fonts and colors) and structural elements (e.g., headings and table columns).

Note that we’re launching these features in English first, with Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, and Korean support to follow soon after.

Getting started

Note: Through June 1, 2026, Workspace customers will get promotional access to higher limits for Match writing style and Match document format tools within the upgraded Gemini in Docs, allowing users to experiment with this feature. Today, we announced Workspace Intelligence, an underlying AI system that provides Gemini with a real-time understanding of your work across Google Workspace. With Workspace Intelligence, all of your generative AI tasks within Workspace will be grounded in your Workspace data across Gmail, Chat, Calendar, and Drive (including Docs, Sheets, and Slides), eliminating the need for users to manually provide context to Gemini on every query.

As an administrator, you can control which data sources Workspace Intelligence can use for your organization via new settings in the Admin console.

Impact of disabling data sources

If you turn off Workspace Intelligence for a data source, generative AI features will not actively search for content from the disabled source. However, if a user adds a specific source to their prompt, that source will be used in Gemini's response. For example, if you turn off Drive as a source, users can still ask Gemini about specific files. Gemini will consult these specific files, but it won't actively search for other files. We recommend keeping access to all data sources ON to ensure optimal performance of AI features across Workspace.

Strong privacy protections

These changes align to our existing data handling practices and privacy commitments. AI features respect user-level content access, ensuring that responses are grounded only in content that a user already has permission to view. Your data is never used to train generative AI models or for advertising purposes.

Last year, we launched Gemini in Google Classroom in English to support educators with planning and creating engaging lessons, and to help students in higher education to study and learn. Starting this week, we’re beginning to expand availability to all Classroom-supported languages in which Gemini is also available. This expansion makes Gemini tools in Classroom increasingly accessible to educators and higher education students whose preferred language is now supported.

In the Gemini tab in Classroom, educators can get help creating and adapting resources, based on learning objectives, starting with the following features:

  • Outline a lesson plan
  • Generate a quiz
  • Write an informational text
  • Tackle common misconceptions
  • Translate text
More content generation features will become available in these languages in the coming weeks.

Educators can also collaborate with Gemini using starter prompts for the Gemini app that help with common tasks like:

  • Brainstorming real world examples
  • Gamifying an activity
  • Generating differentiation strategies
  • Drafting an exemplar and non-exemplar
  • Creating Depth of Knowledge (DOK) questions

Higher education students using the Gemini tab can:

  • Learn about a topic: Get personalized and step-by-step explanations with Guided Learning.
  • Take a quiz: Prepare for upcoming exams by testing your knowledge and getting hints and feedback.
  • Make flashcards: Turn class materials into custom flashcards for extra practice.
  • Create a study guide: Make a study guide about a certain topic, or upload class materials for more personalized resources.

Now when you import Slides into Google Vids with Gemini enabled, you can see and edit your AI-generated scripts for each slide before completing the import, generating voiceovers, and applying animations. Previously, these edits could only be made after the import process was finished.

This update allows you to:

  • Refine your narrative early: Review and adjust the AI-generated script or choose to use your original speaker notes for each slide before the video draft is created.
  • Save time and effort: By making script adjustments up front, you reduce the need for back-and-forth editing once the video is in the main editor.
  • Customize voiceovers: Ensure the generated voiceover perfectly matches your intended message by finalizing the text before the audio is generated.

Whether you are turning a sales deck into a quick pitch or transforming a lesson plan into an educational video, this change provides a more streamlined workflow for creating high-quality video content from your existing presentations.

Getting started

  • Admins: There is no admin control for this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more.
  • End users: This feature will be ON by default and can be disabled by the user in the Convert Slides workflow. Last year, we announced Help me create in Google Forms and then expanded access to the feature to seven more languages.

Help me create in Google Forms drafts your questions 3x faster than doing it manually.*

Now, this feature is also available to users in 21 more languages including Arabic, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Mandarin, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese.

You can use Help me create to enter a prompt that describes the form you want to create or a prompt that references supporting Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs. Gemini will then generate a draft form, incorporating details from any files you reference, that can be used instantly or further customized.

Last year, we also announced Gemini-powered question suggestions. Now, this feature is also available to users in 28 more languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, and German.

Slide generation just got a major upgrade. Gemini can now create fully editable, brand-matched slides using dynamic layouts tailored to your specific content. To ensure visual consistency, Gemini securely analyzes your existing deck to generate designs that fit your established style. You can also manually reference specific files for content or style or allow Gemini to automatically surface relevant files from your Google Drive. In addition, users can now edit existing Slides to change layouts and design elements or content. Just click “Create” or “Enhance this slide” to get started.

Finding time to meet often requires numerous back-and-forth emails, particularly when coordinating between multiple internal and external stakeholders. To address this, we are expanding the "Help me schedule" functionality in Gmail (introduced in October 2025) to support group meetings.

Previously, "Help me schedule" was limited to scheduling between two individuals. With this update, users can now coordinate meetings with multiple guests directly from the Gmail compose window.

Gemini in Gmail detects when you are trying to coordinate a time within an email and will surface a Help me schedule button in the toolbar. If there is more than one recipient on the thread, Gemini will propose ideal time slots that work for you and any colleagues, if you have visibility to their calendar. While the initial guest list is pulled automatically from the email thread, users have full control to edit guests as needed.

When a recipient receives the email, they can cross-reference the proposed availability against their own colleagues' schedules. Once a recipient selects a time, a Calendar invite is automatically sent to all guests.

Core capabilities:

  • Analyze schedules and suggest meeting times: Gemini proposes ideal time slots that work for you and your colleagues (that you have calendar visibility for), based on their availability, working hours, and other factors
  • Manage guest list: The initial guest list for the meeting gets pulled automatically from the email thread, and users have full control to edit the guests
  • Automate invites: Once a recipient selects a time, a Calendar invite is automatically sent to all guests, including external participants.

[Update - April 16, 2026] This rollout is now complete for end users in domains on the Rapid and Scheduled Release tracks.

Conversation history is coming to the Gemini side panel in Google Workspace apps. This feature will enable users to resume their conversations with Gemini across sessions. This history will only persist in a single app and conversations will remain private. For example, a conversation in the side panel of Google Docs will not appear in the side panel of Google Sheets, and a conversation in the side panel of a shared file will not be visible to other users with access to that file.

Timeline
  • As of February 25, 2026: Admin controls for conversation history are available. See below for more details and recommended actions.
  • Starting March 3, 2026: Conversation history will start rolling out to end users participating in the Gemini Alpha and Workspace Labs programs, as well as users with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions.
  • No sooner than March 17, 2026: Conversation history will begin rolling out to all other Workspace users. We’ll provide an update on this blog before that rollout begins.
Accessing conversation history in the side panel of Google Drive
Deletion controls
This launch includes two new controls for administrators to ensure conversation data management aligns with organizational policies: the ability to decide if users can manually delete their history and the ability to set automated retention periods to manage the data lifecycle effectively. These settings can be configured at the domain, organizational unit, or group level.

This launch does not include Vault support or the ability for end users to auto-delete conversations; we’ll roll these features out in the future. Stay tuned to the Workspace Updates blog for more details when these features launch.

Getting started

  • Admins: Visit the Help Center to learn how to manage Gemini in Workspace conversation history for your organization using the settings below.
    • Manual deletion: This setting is ON by default, meaning end users can manually delete individual conversations unless the setting is changed.
    • Auto-deletion: Conversations are stored indefinitely by default, unless admins enable auto-deletion. If enabled, admins can choose to delete inactive chats after three months, 18 months, or three years.
  • End users: Once the feature is live, users can access their history within the Gemini side panel of the specific app they are using.
    • History will only begin to populate once the feature is live for a specific user; conversations held prior to the rollout will not be saved.
    • Users must have smart features and personalization turned on to access Gemini in Workspace services.
    • Conversations remain private; users can only view their own individual history.
    • Depending on the admin settings above, users may be able to manually delete individual conversations or enable user-level auto-deletion settings.

[Update] As of March 30, 2026, this rollout is complete.

We’re introducing AI-suggested feedback for written assignments in Google Classroom, a new feature designed to help educators provide high-quality, personalized support to their students more efficiently. Educators can now generate suggestions from Gemini to draft feedback that is specifically tailored to a student's work, grade level, and any specific focus area designated by the educator.

Educators have shared that personalized feedback is critical for closing learning gaps, yet it is often one of the most time-consuming tasks. By using AI to assist in drafting these comments, teachers can:

  • Manage workloads effectively: Get support in significantly reducing the hours spent giving input on written assignments.
  • Enhance student growth: Deliver the timely, specific feedback students need to build stronger self-reflection and evaluation skills.
  • Prioritize personalization efficiency: Use Gemini’s drafts as a starting point to provide high-level, empathetic guidance that might otherwise be difficult to scale across large classes.
When giving feedback in private comments on assignments in Google Classroom, educators can select “Help me write” to have Gemini suggest written feedback for the assignment. Teachers can then review, edit, and refine before sharing with students, ensuring teachers remain in control of the guidance provided while reducing the time spent on writing manual feedback.

By highlighting a student's strengths and identifying specific areas for improvement, this feature empowers educators to do their best work while ensuring every student feels heard and supported.

*Note: This update only applies to customers who participate in the Gemini Alpha program for Workspace.

To help users remember to get notes for meetings where it is most valuable, we are developing new settings for ‘Take notes for me’ that lets users and admins pre-configure AI note taking. For organizations in the Gemini Alpha, we will soon begin testing a new setting in Google Meet that will automatically enable Take notes for me for meetings with three or more participants.

This setting will be on by default for organizations in the Gemini Alpha program. Admins can disable it at any time, as soon as they see the new setting in their admin console.

This setting may be visible to customers broadly, but it will only be functional for customers participating in the Gemini Alpha program.

In addition to this test, we are also introducing more ways hosts and participants can control Take notes for me. Soon, all customers—regardless of whether they are in the Gemini Alpha program—will see the ability to turn off "Take notes for me" directly from the green room before joining a call. See this post for more details on the new controls

Getting started

  • Admins: This new setting will be on by default for organizations in the Gemini Alpha starting no sooner than March 11th. Admins can opt out of this experience starting now by going to the Google Meet Admin Console, going to Gemini settings, and adjusting the value under “Automatic note-taking” to “OFF”.
  • End users: End users in the Gemini Alpha program can opt out of this experience when they see the new setting (no sooner than March 11) by visiting their user settings in Meet (gear icon in top right), clicking “Meeting Records” and adjusting the drop-down to “OFF”. If an admin enables the setting for their organization but a user disables the setting, any meeting set by the individual user will have Take notes for me OFF by default.

Rollout pace

  • Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains:
    • Admin setting: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting on February 18, 2026
    • New functionality to Gemini Alpha customers: Gradual rollout (up to 15 days for feature visibility) starting no sooner than March 11, 2026
