This official feed from the Google Workspace team provides essential information about new features and improvements for Google Workspace customers.

Building on our announcement earlier this year, a new Google Classroom integration that lets teachers add Guided Learning to any assignment is now rolling out globally in all Gemini-supported languages. Guided Learning is a mode in the Gemini app designed to help students deepen their understanding with step-by-step guidance, rather than giving the answer. Similar to how teachers can assign Gemini Notebooks in Classroom, this feature enables educators to embed structured and curriculum-informed AI-guided sessions directly into their lesson plans while maintaining visibility into student progress.

Key benefits:

  • Informed by your curriculum: Educators can select specific sources from Classroom to serve as context, helping ensure that the assigned Guided Learning is relevant and directly aligned with what is being taught in their classroom.
  • Grounded in learning science: Grounded in Google’s LearnLM research, Guided Learning is built to support learners’ work - stimulating curiosity, providing scaffolding, facilitating productive struggle, and offering graduated hints.
  • Helping educators focus their support: Guided Learning serves as a supportive 1:1 tool to field students' initial questions about independent practice or homework, freeing up valuable teacher time to focus attention on the learners who need direct support.
  • Focused view for students: When students open the assigned Guided Learning from Classroom, the Gemini side navigation panel is automatically hidden, new chats are disabled within the tab, and they remain in Guided Learning mode.
  • Actionable insights for the entire class and individual students: Teachers can see  AI-generated insight summaries in Classroom based on students’ conversations with the assigned Guided Learning activity at both the class level and individual student level, helping educators inform instruction. Additionally, teachers can access individual student chat transcripts.
  • Seamless integration with Class Tools on Chromebooks: For educators and students using ChromeOS and Class Tools, Guided Learning in Classroom can be launched directly to maintain a secure, unified, and locked-down environment where students are focused on a single tab and teachers can remotely view students’ screens to monitor progress.

How educators can use Guided Learning:

  • Provide scaffolded support for STEM problem-solving: For complex math or science problems, attach a Guided Learning activity so students can get extra support when they get stuck. This helps students navigate speed bumps independently, while giving teachers insights into where students are still struggling.
  • Deepen inquiry and conceptual extensions: Use Guided Learning for open-ended exploration and extension tasks, so students can develop their understanding of core concepts at their own pace and make meaningful cross-curricular connections.
  • Support collaborative brainstorming: Ask students to discuss and talk through their project ideas with help from Guided Learning to build confidence and refine their thoughts before participating in wider group discussions.
  • Extend support beyond the classroom: Offer Guided Learning as an on-demand tutoring assistant during homework and remote study, ensuring help outside of standard class time.

Educators can learn more about Guided Learning and ways to bring this tool into instruction in the Guided Learning in Classroom Guide.

To help ensure end users at your organization are familiar with your organization’s policies for handling meeting artifacts like recordings, transcriptions and notes by Gemini, we’re introducing the ability to set custom policy text from the admin console that is displayed prior to users joining Google Meet calls.

As an admin, you’ll be able to display a custom, short message that appears in the Green Room prior to users joining a Meet call and even include a URL to a webpage that includes more information about your company's policies. You can choose to have this policy always be displayed or only when the meeting is currently being recorded, transcribed, or notes are being taken by Gemini.

Update: November 3, 2026: Rollout for this feature is paused. We will post an update when it resumes. We have updated the rollout timelines listed below in this post to reflect this change.

Users can now upload images to create custom avatars directly within Google Vids. This enables greater options for customization and more precise creative control by uploading your own image, in addition to the ability to build a custom avatar from scratch.

Upload Avatar user experience

  • Upload an image: Choose an image from your local computer, Drive, or Photos to create an avatar from.
  • Refine images in Vids: Refine the image within Vids to cleanup backgrounds, lighting, or add festive decorations.
  • Save for reuse in a project: Custom avatars are saved to the Vids project, so they can be reused consistently within a video.

Google Sheets now supports compact form layout for pivot tables, which keeps multi-level pivot tables readable while reducing excessive horizontal scrolling. | Learn more.

Immersive explorations now available in the Gemini app

We’re introducing a library of immersive explorations in the Gemini app, giving users an interactive, visual way to explore topics layer-by-layer, from microscopic systems to deep space. Users can access this library in the Gemini student hub by clicking on “Try immersive explorations” and will soon be able to access these immersive explorations directly in a chat conversation with Gemini. | Learn more.

Create, preview, and edit files directly in the Gemini app

We’re introducing new ways to create and refine files and code in the Gemini app. You can now generate, preview, and edit files right within your Gemini app chat—expand to full screen to type edits directly, highlight text to ask questions, or have Gemini refine them. | Learn more.

Edit entire presentations with Gemini in Google Slides

You can now use Gemini in Google Slides to edit multiple slides or an entire presentation at once. With a single prompt in the Slides side panel, you can update content throughout a deck, refresh visual styles in bulk, or match the style of another presentation. | Learn more.

The announcements above were published on the Workspace Updates blog over the last week. Please refer to the original blog posts for complete details.

You can now use Gemini in Google Slides to edit multiple slides or an entire presentation at once. With a single prompt in the Slides side panel, you can update content throughout a deck, refresh visual styles in bulk, or match the style of another presentation. Gemini determines which slides need to change and applies edits directly to your native, editable slides, so you stay in full control to make any further adjustments.

Try the following to update your presentations in less time:

  • Refresh visual styles: Update fonts, backgrounds, color schemes, and more across the entire deck. For example: "Update this whole deck to match the style of this [reference file]"
  • Update content throughout the deck: Simplify, expand, or change the focus of your presentation, grounded in your files from Google Drive. For example: "Update this presentation to include more details based on [reference file]."
  • Combine or expand slides: Condense multiple slides into one, or add new slides to an existing deck. For example: "Summarize slides 5–7 into a single slide."
  • Make styling consistent: Align title styles or remove page numbers across all slides. For example: "Make the titles on all slides the same font size and color."

Once Gemini finishes, a summary of the changes appears in the side panel. Edits are applied as if you made them, so you can use undo or version history to review or revert them.

Note: At launch, this feature will be supported in English only.

Getting started

Note: Through at least December 1, 2026, Workspace customers will get promotional access to higher limits for creating multi-slide presentations using Gemini in Google Slides, allowing users to experiment with this feature. Users will see a notification when they use this feature to inform them of the limited higher promotional access period. Per-user usage limits will apply after that date; we’ll provide more information in the Help Center in advance of updated usage limits going into effect.
